Since 2006 Reece's Rainbow has actively promoted and supported the international adoption of children who have Down syndrome into families across the United States. Through their outreach, families in Eastern Europe have started making the choice to raise their children instead of placing them into orphanages at birth, as recommended by their doctors.
The ultimate goal of Reece's Rainbow is to eliminate the need for the organization to exist! This goal can only be accomplished by educating and supporting families all over the world; giving them the knowledge and resources needed to keep and raise their children with Down syndrome in the loving family environment they were meant to have. And so, Connecting the Rainbow was born!
Although Connecting the Rainbow will soon be partnering with groups in Kiev, Ukraine, as well as groups in Tver and Moscow, Russia, it's current focus is on Bulgaria. After a recent meeting in Sofia with the Association of Parents of Children with Down Syndrome, it was confirmed the situation for Bulgarian parents raising their children with Down syndrome is one of desperation!
